Birthday
This is a little program which I originally wrote when I was learning
C, some time ago now. It has gone through a couple of total
re-writes, the last of which was four or five years ago now[0], but I
still find it a useful program.
It displays a list of events which are coming up in the near future,
based on a config file (~/.birthdays) in the user's home directory. I
include it in my .profile, so I get the list every time I log on. See
the manpage for more details of this format.

# HOW TO EDIT THIS FILE:
# The "handy ruler" below makes it easier to edit a package description.
# Line up the first '|' above the ':' following the base package name, and
# the '|' on the right side marks the last column you can put a character in.
# You must make exactly 11 lines for the formatting to be correct. It's also
# customary to leave one space after the ':' except on otherwise blank lines.

birthday: birthday (reminder program)
birthday:
birthday: Birthday is a terminal program which displays a list of forthcomeing
birthday: birthdays and other events. It does this by reading from a simple
birthday: config file (./birthdays) in the users home directory. The program
birthday: is executalble at a shell prompt, which makes it ideal for setting
birthday: as an executable in the users .bashrc file. Doing so will set it to
birthday: display the list every time the user logs into his or her account.
